Grote Markt (the Great Market). No longer a market place, it is the main city square where cultural events are held. Our home is a few blocks behind the blue truck.
Grote Markt scene 2. The main building is City Hall. The statue is of Brabo, the city's mythical hero, severing an evil giant's hand.
Grote Markt scene 3. The roofs of buildings facing the square are topped with golden ornaments.
Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal (Our Lady's Cathedral). The largest Gothic catheral in the low countries.
OLV Kathedraal scene 2. Spring brings tables out on to the terraces.
OLV Kathedraal scene 3. The cathedral's foundation is merely 2 meters thick. It was build on muddy land covered with cattle skins.
Sint-Carolus Borromeuskerk. Its smaller, friendlier size makes me feel more at home. Slightly damaged by fire in the summer of 2009.
Groenplaats (Green Square). Formerly a cemetery, now a place for events, with a subway station and a parking lot underground.
